In painting still lifes, I'm most interested in how light wraps and moves around a subject. I view light in the same way that water moves; There are eddies and still water and fast moving water. Light is similiar in that it will stay in one place or hide like eddies and form shade or darker areas, or move rapidly creating highlights.
Like my still lifes, I'm really interested in light quality. There are so many beautiful places to paint, but I'm most interested in how light falls.
Drawing is the foundational part of art. Like scales that need to be practiced regularly, so does drawing. Some days work out better than others.
For me, a portrait is much more than a picture of someone or something. It needs to capture a sense of their soul. I try to do that as best as I can.
