This class is for those who have always wanted to learn to paint in the classical tradition as well as those who are relatively new to painting. To help build understanding and confidence we will start with just 2 colors and then add color as we advance. As in the drawing class, we will begin with basic shapes, how to observe those basic shapes in objects, including the human form and nature, how to build relationships of positive and negative shapes, measuring, light and dark relationships and how to make objects appear dimensional through tonal values and edges.

 

Thumbnail drawings and thumbnail paintings will be an essential part of the process. Throughout the 8 week class, we will do a variety of exercises using objects from life. We will not be working from photographs. At the end of this class, you will have the very basic fundamentals of how to paint from life, allowing you to progress with a solid foundation.
